Dr. Marcus Isaiah Brumfield currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Tougaloo College where here provides strategic leadership to undergraduate students and leads strategic partnerships and collaborations with stakeholder groups. A certified CompTIA Security+ professional, Dr. Brumfield specializes in the areas of cybersecurity, data science, engineering, and database administration to identify and leverage opportunities for institutional advancement.


A seasoned computer science professional with a deep expertise in strategic leadership and faculty development opportunities in higher education, Dr. Brumfield bring a unique perspective having worked in industry and academia. Dr. Brumfield’s knowledge-based research and technical skillset uniquely positions him to assist institutions of higher learning in navigating the evolving landscape of technology-driven education, fostering innovative teaching methodologies, and enhancing faculty effectiveness. Through tailored consulting services, Dr. Brumfield provides support to colleges and universitiesin optimizing faculty engagement, integrating cutting-edge digital tools, and developing strategic initiatives that drive institutional excellence. Dr. Brumfield’s research focuses on the role of abbreviated programs for minority students at land-grant institutions and the impact these programs have on students who seek to obtain engineering degrees. Dr. Brumfield’s work has contributed an innovative research design through critical and statistical analysis providing a framework for future research and uncovering opportunities for current administrators and faculty to recruit and retain talent for the STEM workforce.


Dr. Brumfield earned his Ph.D. in Engineering with a concentration in Engineering Education from Mississippi State University; his Masters of Science in Computer Science from Mississippi State University; and his Bachelors of Science from Tougaloo College.
